Advances of Abnormal Grain Growth to Toughen A12O3 Ceramics

Abstract

Abstract: This paper presented the characterization of microstructure of A1₂O₃ with abnormal grain growth (AGG). The effect of different additives, seeds and introduction of seeds on AGG, microstructure and mechanical property of A1₂O₃ was summarized systematically. The mechanism of AGG under different conditions was discussed. Also, the mechanism to toughen A1₂O₃ ceramics with AGG was interpreted preliminarily.
