Abstract: The syntheses of transparent colloidal solutions of extremely small titanium dioxide particles (d=3nm) and powders (d=6.8nm) in the rutile phase were
presented. Quantum-sized effects were observed by using UV-Vis absorption spectra, reflectance spectra and differentiate absorption spectra. The amount of blue-shift
of λonset is greater than that of colloid titania in the anatase phase and also greater than that of theoretical prediction developed by Brus
based on effective mass approximation and tight binding approximation.
