Abstract: Modified small punch (MSP) tests were used to evaluate the ultimate strength of lanthanum-modified lead zirconate-titanate (PLZT) ceramics prepared by conventional mixed oxide (MO) method and mechanical alloying (MA) technique respectively. The MSP tests are very convenient for these two kinds of PLZT ceramics, poled or unpoled. Fracture surfaces were examined for the different MSP specimens; the dependence of mechanical and electrical properties of PLZT ceramics on microstructures was discussed in detail.

Key words: MSP, PLZT, mechanical alloying, fracture strength
