Abstract: This paper introduced the preparation of stable iron-nitride magnetic fluid by vapor-liquid chemical reaction between
iron carbonyl and ammonia. The effects of experiment parameters, such as reactant proportion, reaction temperature, the type and the dosage of the surfactant on
product properties were studied in detail. X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscope(TEM) and vibrating-sample magnetometer(VSM) were carried out
to measure the chemical structure, the crystal style and the magnetic property. The prepared magnetic fluids have high performances with respect to saturation magnetization, up to 0.134T.
